Want to do something simple and old school?

We've might have the answer ... why not dress the Debbie Harry Paper Doll up  in some of her popular outfits from the BLONDIE hey-day (Hanging on the Telephone...etc) or the Adele, Kate Moss and Beyonce Paper Doll ... or you could fill in your Eighties Colouring book, Circus Diary and TV Guide with LA LA Land coloured pencils.

Fabulous!

You can get these quirky gifts from www.livinginlalaland.co.uk an independent fashion boutique (based in Glasgow, Scotland) which is packed full of obscure bits and pieces, cult fashion, art and much more including rain bonnets, Lucky Dip gifts, dresses,  floral capes and false eyelashes.

The site and fashion boutique were the brainchild of Sarah Graham who is the Editor of Coveted Mag; Glasgow's only fashion magazine.

English Flamboyance and Whimsy

Gemma Shepherd

  Photo: http://www.shepherdengland.com/    Price: £144.00

We love the understated English flamboyance and whimsy of this striking Gemma Shepherd superfine geelong wool scarf.

Shepherd, who has a background in graphic design and launched Shepherd England in 2005, is influenced by a 'patterned world' and has created some beautiful pieces for the A/W 11-12 collection.

I shop therefore I am...

We've got all obsessed with slogans again and have been re-visiting the work of conceptual artist Barbara Kruger . Some of her art work a comment on consumerism (much of it seeming even more relevent today)  with it's trademark lettering,  back and white imagery and red background; while others edgy, pithy and feminist.

Check out http://www.barbarakruger.com/ to see more of her work.

Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler love Tucker

Here at Ollie&Agnes we have fallen in love with many of the pieces created for the new season of Tucker by Gaby Basora.

Basora, who comes from a family of painters and flea market scroungers (great credentials in our book) takes her inspiration from everywhere. She says on Tuckers' website: 'There's a wistful feeling-like nostalgia, a yearning for something intimate and yet, somehow, inaccessible that I try to conjure up in these clothes.'

For those who love vintage but are finding it hard to come across key pieces  (or can't get the smell of moth balls out!) this is a lovely alternative with floaty femine silks, faux fur, Oriental-inspired and stunning floral prints, floppy hats and delicate, fabric shoes. You could almost mistake some of it for the real deal. According to the Tucker website celebrity fans include Liv Tyler, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.

Check out the site for some really nice pieces and some lovely styling: http://tuckerbygabybasora.com/fall11/

A very Cool Way to Keep Cool

We love this elegant and stylish handmade fan, the Bianca Directional, from matthewsfanco.com.  The polished chrome and uber cool mahogony (eco-harvested!) blades and stylish modernism remind us of the art deco style of the 1920's.

The Bianca Directional  not only looks great; but it can be positioned in 180 degree arc for directional air flow and is available in a variety of finishes including brushed nickel, polished brass and polished copper.

Reece Witherspoon's Hair

 Photos: http://waterforelephantsfilm.com/2011/03/01/want-reese-witherspoons-look-in-water-for-elephants-grab-your-bobby-pins/

Here at Ollie&Agnes we have long admired the Marcel or finger-wave hairstyle and love Reece Witherspoon's look in her new movie Water For Elephants.

The finger-wave process involves pinching the hair between fingers and combing the hair in alternate directions to create a wave shape. It is similiar to the look created by the Marcel Wave(although this look, created by Francois Marcel in 1872, used hot curling irons), and was made famous by Hollywood stars in the roaring 20's.

Apparently, to create Reece's glamourous look for the movie, no curlers or irons were used and it was created with the clever use of pins and set clips and the hairdresser's digital dexterity!

We even tried it ourselves using a You Tube video, but failed miserably. Perhaps you 'll have better luck!

Philip Treacy is a Man on a Mission!

Philip Treacy www.philiptreacy.co.uk

At last, with thoughts of the Royal Wedding, there is a legitimate reason to harp on about hats and an excuse to show some of Milliner Philip Treacy's creations.  As they say, a hat really is the finishing touch for the wedding look and can make or break and outfit.

Above is a structurally stunning piece by Treacy and, below, for those who prefer a less 'Ga Ga' feel for their wedding, and favour a slightly more traditional vibe ... beautiful Butterflies.

Or you could opt for many hats at once?

Philip Treacy www.philiptreacy.co.uk

Architectural genius  Treacy was born in Ireland and, as a boy, used to watch 'glamorous creatures' emerging from the church, opposite his house, after a wedding. Following his studies, legend has it that he took his designs to Tatler and the magazine's Style Director Isabella Blow adored his work. She went on to champion him and, as they say,  history was made.

Philip Treacy is a man on a mission to get us all loving 'headwear' and we, at Ollie&Agnes, salute that!
